Rotational Nurses And Midwives Threaten Another Strike Over Unpaid Allowances

Source The Ghana Report

The leadership of the Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association(RNMA) in the Western Region has threatened to embark on another massive demonstration on June 30 if the Ministry of Health(MoH) and the Ministry of Finance(MoF) fail to pay their pending 12 months allowances.

The Association, on behalf of its members, says they are in pain, sad, and very angry as they felt they have been ill-treated by the two ministries.

A press release signed by the Regional Chairperson Isaiah Kwofie and the Regional Secretary Kimbelene Catherine Agnes Mensah on June 9, 2023, indicates that the rotational nurses and midwives will demonstrate massively on the 30th of this month to once again, express their disgust and displeasure with the failure to pay their ”salaries.”

Speaking on the ill-treatment meted out to them by the Law Enforcement Agencies over their previous demonstration in May, the Association said nothing can hinder them from the second scheduled demonstration.

“It’s quite unfortunate that the Law Enforcement Agency had to move our planned demonstration to the tail end of our service. But come what may, the demonstration will come on. We have starved and suffered for this long and Enough is Enough”, an excerpt of the release indicated.

According to the Association, 10,975 rotational nurses and midwives across the country will be finishing their one-year mandatory national service come the 30th of this month, and still their Financial Clearance has not been released by the Ministry of Finance for their documents to be processed, and placed on the Mechanized Payroll to enable the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department to effect payment.
