Robert Lewandowski joins Barcelona from Bayern Munich

Barcelona have completed the long-awaited signing of Robert Lewandowski from German champions Bayern Munich.

The 33-year-old, who is widely heralded as one of the game’s top strikers, had been pushing for an exit from Bayern all summer after growing frustrated with a lack of movement in contract negotiations, publicly insisting that Barca was his preferred destination.

Indeed, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain were among the sides to express an interest in signing Lewandowski, although both teams were well aware that they would only get a look-in if talks with Barcelona broke down.

That looked like a possibility at times, with the La Liga side struggling to find the money needed to convince Bayern to sell, only for an agreement to finally be reached between the two sides at the €45m plus €5m add-ons.

Lewandowski said goodbye to his Bayern team-mates on Saturday and has now put pen to paper on a four-year contract at Camp Nou.

Lewandowski becomes Barcelona’s fourth signing of the summer, following Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen and Raphinha in making the move to Catalonia.

Xavi’s side have also re-signed winger Ousmane Dembele to a new contract and continue to look for further reinforcements in the transfer market.
