The Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital) management has refuted claims that it had admitted a prison convict for almost two months.
News reports suggested that the hospital and prison authorities had conspired with a convict, David Aseye Tay, to stay at the facility despite being sentenced to serve 15 years at the Nsawam medium-security prison.
The convict was found guilty on 23 counts of defrauding a licenced bulk distribution company (BDC), Misyl Energy Company Ltd., of over US$ 6 million through deceptive means in 2018.
In a statement, the hospital said that the reportage was done without any verification and described it as unfortunate.
The statement explained that the convict was admitted to undergo two surgical procedures and was later discharged to continue treatment at the Nsawam Prison Hospital.
“The individual in question was referred from the Nsawam Prison Hospital on 22nd June 2023 but was admitted to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital on June 23, 2023. After completing the procedures, he was discharged back to the Nsawam Prison Hospital, where he was initially referred for follow-up.
“The said patient was discharged on July 21, 2023, after spending a total of 28 days on admission,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, it said management was fully open to having any suspicions or doubts regarding this matter verified by the necessary legal authority.
