Ridge Hospital assault: Nurse suffered no fracture or shoulder dislocation — Committee
The committee tasked to investigate the assault case at Ridge Hospital has disclosed that there is no medical evidence backing the claims made by Rejoice Tsotso Bortei, a rotation nurse, regarding a shoulder dislocation she allegedly sustained during the altercation.
During the presentation of the report on August 27, 2025, Dr. Lawrence Ofori-Boadu, the Committee’s Chairman, pointed out that Bortei reported her injuries a day after the incident, which occurred on August 18, 2025.
Despite her claims, the medical records do not indicate any fractures in her left wrist or dislocations in her right shoulder joint.
The report detailed that the nurse received medical treatment, was prescribed pain relief, and was advised to rest.
Additionally, she was placed under psychological support following the incident.
“Rejoice Tsotso Bortei, who is a rotation nurse, reported her injury to the hospital a day after the incident on the 18th of August and was further treated. There was no evidence of fracture on her left wrist or dislocation of her right shoulder joint as documented by the medical records.
“She has, however, been treated and given pain relief, recommended for bed rest, and received psychological support care,” the committee stated.
This finding directly contradicts Bortei’s assertion of having suffered a dislocation due to the assault.
The incident gained attention due to a viral video showing a confrontation between the relatives of a patient and the staff in the emergency department, raising significant concerns regarding the safety of healthcare workers.
In light of this situation, Minister Mintah Akandoh called for the establishment of the investigation committee, which has faced significant criticism from professional associations and the general public.
In a related development, Rejoice Tsotso Bortei has initiated a civil lawsuit against social media influencer Ralph Saint Williams, known as Ralph De Fellow Ghanaian, claiming GHS 7 million in damages for alleged physical assault and defamation stemming from the incident.
