Ridge assault: Nurse’s credibility is on the line – Nii Lante Vanderpuye

The National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has raised serious concerns about the credibility of the nurse at the centre of the Ridge Hospital assault case.

His comments follow a report by a committee tasked with investigating the incident.

The report found that the nurse did not suffer a shoulder dislocation or fracture, as initially claimed by both the nurse and the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).

Speaking in an interview on August 28, Vanderpuye said the outcome of the investigation has cast doubt on the nurse’s professional integrity.

“I wonder how people will see her within the space and which institutions will want to work with her because her head of department is saying something contrary to what she said,” he remarked.

He questioned why the nurse chose to handle the issue personally rather than reporting it through the appropriate internal channels at Ridge Hospital.

According to him, if the matter had been formally presented to her department and hospital management, the institution could have addressed it more effectively.

Vanderpuye also criticised the decision to involve the GRNMA early on. He said the association should not have been the first to act, arguing that the hospital should have taken the lead.

“You can’t run to your association and leave your main department,” he said.
