Renowned Ghanaian musician and entrepreneur, Rex Owusu Marfo, popularly known as Rex Omar, has been named the Presidential Staffer for the Blackstar Experience initiative.
This was made known on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, by media personality Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD), who is now the Presidential Adviser on Diaspora Affairs
The Blackstar Experience is a key cultural, arts, and tourism project of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), designed to strengthen Ghanaian identity, attract investment, create jobs, and promote tourism.
The initiative will feature year-round celebrations across major entertainment, artistic, and educational fields.
Rex Omar, a celebrated highlife musician, is also a trained management professional with expertise in intellectual property rights. He is considered one of Ghana’s foremost authorities in this field.
In 2017, Rex Omar was elected Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) and was re-elected to serve a second term.
His influence in the music industry includes past roles as Vice President of the Copyright Society of Ghana and membership in the 2013 Committee for National Intellectual Property and Policy Strategy.
Rex Omar’s previous experience extends to being the head of business and finance at the Musicians Union of Ghana.
He is also a member of SUISSA (Copyright Society of Switzerland) and is under a publishing contract with EMI in Germany.
In the political arena, Rex Omar has served as an advisor to President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress, focusing on the growth of the creative arts and entertainment sector in Ghana.
He has been the party’s spokesperson on related matters.
