Revenge time for Ghana as they face Uruguay in the 2022 World Cup

Ghana will face old foes Uruguay, Portugal, and South Korea in Group H after the draw ceremony for the 2022 FIFA World Cup was held in Qatar.

Ghana will be looking forward to revenge against two of its group opponents who defeated the Black Stars at previous editions of the tournament.

Portugal defeated the Black Stars by two goals to one in the group stages of the 2014 World Cup, but the most painful was the Uruguay loss in 2010.

The South Americans outmuscled the Black Stars on penalties preventing the West African giants from progressing to the semi-finals in South Africa.

This was before Uruguay striker stopped a goal-bound header by Ghana’s Dominic Adiyiah. However, Asamoah Gyan missed the penalty, which sent the game into extra time and then the decider by penalties.

The team’s third opponent is Asian giant South Korea.

The two countries will meet for the very first time at the Mundial.

Ghana, the four-time African champions will be making their fourth appearance at the Mundial after participating in the 2006, 2010 and 2014 editions.

The West African giants returned to the World Cup on Tuesday after eliminating regional rivals Nigeria, advancing on away goal advantage.

The tournament will be held for the first time from late November to mid-December due to the hot summer weather in the host nation, Qatar.

It is scheduled to take place from 21 November to 18 December 2022 across five cities and will be played in a reduced timeframe of around 28 days.

This will be the first World Cup ever to be held in the Arab world and it will be the second World Cup held entirely in Asia after the 2002 edition was held in South Korea and Japan.
