The Secretary to the Board of the National Cathedral Secretariat, Rev Kusi Boateng, has secured a restraining order against North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
This means Mr Ablakwa cannot make “any public disclosures of the private information, documents, correspondence, communication and property belonging to the applicant”.
It would be recalled that the North Tongu MP has recently taken a liking to the activities of Reverend Boateng, whom he accused of having a double identity.
He also accused him of a conflict of interest following some monies he received from the National Cathedral Board of Trustees under a different name.
According to the North Tongu legislator Rev. Kusi Boateng has two TINs produced on different occasions and, in some instances, two different dates of birth.
But Rev Boateng, in an earlier statement, described the allegations as a “twisted narration of events”.
In his statement of claim filed at the Accra High Court, Mr Boateng stated that the defendant’s insinuations against him are “not only misleading but calculated to injure his reputation”.
The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Godfred Yeboah Dame have been listed as the second respondent.
The court is expected to hear the matter on February 22, 2023.
What are the reliefs being sought;
a. A declaration that the statements made by the Defendant, which have been particularized in paragraph 22 of the statement of claim, are defamatory;
b. An order directed at the Defendant to publish on the same platform that he published the defamatory words as well as a full page of the Daily Graphic Newspaper, on six consecutive occasions over a 6 month period, an unqualified retraction and an apology;
c. An order for perpetual injunction restraining the Defendant, his agents, assigns and servants from further publishing any defamatory words against the Plaintiff;
d. General Damages for defamation;
e. Costs; and
f. Any other order(s) as this Honourable Court may deem fit
