Retract your “reckless” remarks and apologise or face legal action — GJA to GRNMA Secretary
The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has given Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum, General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), a five-day ultimatum to retract what it calls threatening remarks against journalists and issue a formal apology.
The comments resurfaced in a video following the recent Ridge Hospital assault incident.
In the June 2025 recording from an interview, Dr. Tenkorang-Twum reacted to media criticism of a nurses’ strike by warning journalists that they would “meet us in the hospital” and be shown “professionalism” in a way that many viewed as intimidating.
At a press briefing on Friday, August 29, GJA President Albert Dwumfour condemned the remarks, calling them “reckless” and “a blatant threat of violence against journalists in Ghana”.
“This is deeply disturbing and entirely unbefitting of someone in his position. We are not taking it lightly,” Mr. Dwumfour stated.
He added that the association would hold Dr. Tenkorang-Twum legally and publicly accountable for any consequences stemming from his words.
The GJA’s demands include a full retraction, a public apology, and a clear assurance that such behaviour will not happen again.
If these are not met within five days, the association says it will pursue legal action and involve bodies such as the National Media Commission (NMC), CHRAJ, and international media watchdogs.
The GJA also called on GRNMA leadership to distance itself from the comments and urged the government and health authorities to ensure the safety of journalists, particularly in hospitals.
