Retract and apologize for your “irresponsible” comment – GUTA to Osei-Owusu
The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has called on the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, to apologize to its members for claiming that traders exploit Ghanaians and have no moral right to complain about taxes.
Mr. Osei-Owusu is reported to have said in an interview with a Kumasi-based television station that GUTA members “are always talking about taxes, and yet they are over-exploiting Ghanaians, and I’m saying this without fear.”
In a statement dated April 17, 2023, GUTA said that he also accused their members of dishonesty and implied that the traders are thieves who are ripping off Ghanaian consumers.
They condemned the statement describing it as “sheer arrogance and complete ignorance” on the part of the Bekwai MP.
The leadership of GUTA insisted their members are patriotic and honest Ghanaians who are making immense contributions to the development of the country.
They, therefore, demanded Mr. Osei-Wusu immediately retract his comments and apologize to members of the business community.
“We have listened to and read the unguarded statements made by no mean a person than the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament of the Republic of Ghana and demand an immediate retraction and unqualified apology to GUTA and all members of the business community,” the statement stressed.
