Restrict Influx Of Frozen Chicken To Protect Local Industry- Dr. Baidoo
The chairman of the Ashanti Regional Poultry Farmers Association who is also the Managing Director of Boris B’s Group of Companies, Dr. Boris Baidoo, in a two-day summit organized by the Fidelity Bank and eco. business for poultry farmers in Sunyani has disclosed that the poultry industry in Ghana lacks favorable policies, hence the unrestricted influx of frozen chicken in the country.
The summit held on the theme “The future of poultry production: Economical and sustainable solutions to the sector’s current challenges” brought together over one hundred (100) poultry industry players from the Ashanti, Ahafo, Bono, Bono East, North East, Upper West, Upper East, and Savannah regions.
Some of the participants also at the summit include agricultural product exporters, farmers, experts in animal husbandry, insurance companies, and others.
According to Dr. Baidoo, stakeholders must continually appraise themselves of the dynamics within the poultry industry since it plays a key role in the local business industry.
The participants at the meeting brought up good innovative ideas as to how the local poultry industry will be revived and to prevent foreign frozen chickens in the country.
According to him, ” despite the implementation of several government interventions, the agenda had not been achieved, making it difficult for the industry to realize its full potential”.
The Chairman called for the application of strict laws to be enacted to prevent unlawful acts and to improve the livestock sector. In his word, “Ghana has no excuse for not producing enough maize and soya, which form an integral part of our feed formulations, considering the availability of vast arable lands”.
He showed concern about how livestock feed keeps increasing due to the current economic crisis.
