President Akufo-Addo has directed all government appointees to establish a government response system to address various issues no later than 12 hours after being raised in the public domain.

Following the latest developments in the country, President Akufo-Addo wants swift, comprehensive responses to government policies, activities and decisions after it has been brought to their attention.

In a letter dated October 20, signed by the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, the response system is to combat misinformation.

“Cabinet, at its last meeting held on October 6, 2022, discussed the need to establish a government response system to address various issues in the public domain, particularly in respect of attempts to distort issues or misinform the public,” the release explained.

The President asked his appointees to work in conjunction with the Ministry of Information for appropriate responses to queries from the public.

“Government institutions should patronise our media assets across the country. The Minister for Information is working with the Minister of Communication and Digitalisation to come up with a list and programme and will share it with government appointees,” a portion of the statement read.

The statement added,” all government appointees, including Ministers and Chief Executive Officers, should make themselves available for deployment on radio and television shows to speak generally about government’s activities, and particularly activities concerning their ministries and institutions”.

The President urged them to promote government activities through social media to enable them to respond timeously to issues.

“All government appointees should have an active social media presence. Those who are not present on social media should contact the Minister for information to assist in setting up social media accounts to promote government activities as well as the activities of their Ministries and institutions.

“All appointees are hereby directed to note and comply with the above instructions,” the statement concluded.
