Residents count losses after fire guts 15 structures at Achimota school
Some residents occupying lands on the premises of the Achimota School are counting their losses following a fire incident that razed 15 structures on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.
Properties such as television sets, refrigerators, cars and other items were destroyed due to the fire outbreak.
In an interview, some of the affected residents explained the adverse impact of the inferno and called for support.
“I travelled to attend to my mum, who is not well. I was called around 2 pm and was informed about the fire incident. I lost everything”.
“My three deep freezers, which I moved here to start my water business, are also burnt. I was at the hospital with my mum when I told her about the fire,” one of the victims narrated,
Another said, “I managed to salvage only one of the four bags in our room. Everything is gone. I managed to pick up clothing in the laundry basket. An amount of GH₵4,000 was stolen when I brought some of my items outside”.
The affected persons revealed that the Member of Parliament(MP) for Okaikwei North Constituency, Theresa Lardi Awuni, and some other constituency officials have come to their aid.
