Ghanaian winger, Joseph Paintsil has expressed his frustration by accusing Belgian referees of treating him unfairly, following Genk’s 1-1 draw against KV Mechelen.
In a heated post-match statement, Paintsil criticized the officiating, claiming that there was a bias against him that was negatively affecting the integrity of the league.
After receiving his fifth yellow card of the season, which will see him sidelined for the next league match, Paintsil expressed disbelief at the situation, stating, “It’s unbelievable. I think the referees are targeting me, but I accept that.”
Despite the setback, Paintsil remained defiant, asserting, “I’ll just say it: the referees in Belgium don’t like me. They are completely destroying the competition while they think they are doing it well.”
With 23 appearances, six goals, and four assists in the Belgian top flight this season, Paintsil’s accusations highlight a contentious issue that warrants further attention within the league.
Paintsil has not hit the heights he was reaching last season but could still turn this around.
