Reduce residential fees by 25% – Haruna Iddrisu to University of Ghana
Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has called on the University of Ghana to lower its residential facility fees by 25% for new and returning students.
The request was made during a meeting on February 6, 2025, with university management, including Vice Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Amfo and the Student Representative Council (SRC), at the ministries in Accra.
“I’ve instructed the Vice Chancellor to reduce the residential facility fees by 25% and ensure future fee changes are discussed with the SRC,” he said.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Amfo assured the minister that the university would follow through on the reduction, stating, “We have listened to the concerns of both the minister and our students. We can afford to apply a 25% reduction and will ensure better student engagement moving forward.”
SRC President Maradona Adjei Yeboah welcomed the fee cut but requested refunds for students who had already paid the higher fees.
“We’re grateful for the reduction, which eases the burden on our parents, but we believe those who’ve already paid should receive a refund,” he said.
University management revealed that about 80% of students have already paid the residential fees.
