Rebecca Akufo-Addo event at Labadi Beach Hotel cancelled over coronavirus fears

A day after the government announced the country’s first coronavirus case, First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has cancelled her International Women’s Day High-Level Event scheduled for Friday.
The gathering of voices on women issues, to be hosted by the Labadi Beach Hotel, was cancelled over coronavirus fears, theghanareport.com. has learned.

The annual event was to host prominent women and gender advocates following the observance of international women’s day. Some 400 guests were expected to attend the event, sources at Ghana’s premier hotel have told the news portal. The First Lady’s event programme was the biggest the hotel was to host this week.
The hotel has been severely hit with the cancellation of several events. Event organisers have cancelled five major international events at the five-star seaside resort.
The First Lady’s event was cancelled in line with the government’s measures aimed at averting a possible spread of the virus that has killed over 4600 globally.

The Minister of Health announced Ghana’s first coronavirus case on Monday after 57 suspected infections tested negative.

A Ghanaian and a Norwegian diplomat are the patients the ministry is holding in isolation.

Ghana became the sixth African country and the 12th African nation to report the virus, which has since January seen a surge across the world when the first case was recorded in China.
