Rear Admiral Seth Amoama appointed to act as new Chief of Defence Staff

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Seth Amoama, to act as Chief of Defence Staff.

The appointment is expected to take effect from February 5, 2021, pending consultation from the yet-to-be constituted Council of State.

The announcement was contained in a communique signed by the Acting Director of Communication at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin.

“This appointment has been made following the completion of the tour of duty and subsequent retirement from the Ghana Armed Forces, on February 5, 2021, of the current Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General O.B Akwa,” the statement said.

“The President has expressed his gratitude to him for his dedicated and meritorious service to the Ghana Armed Forces and to the nation,” it added.

The 54-year-old Rear Admiral Seth Amoama, until his current appointment was appointed as Chief of Naval Staff by President Akufo-Addo in 2019.

The incoming Chief of Defense Staff who succeeded Real Admiral Peter Faidoo has been in active service with the Navy since 1990.

Rear Admiral Issah Adams Yakubu replaces Rear Admiral Seth Amoama as Chief of Naval Staff.

Rear Admiral Yakubu, until his new appointment, was the Chief of Staff at General Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces.

According to the statement from the presidency, “the President will, in due course, in accordance with applicable regulation, appoint a new Chief of Staff at General Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces,” Mr Arhin added.
