Real Tamale United faces financial crisis and heavy sanctions from GFA
Real Tamale United (RTU) is navigating through a severe financial crisis, as confirmed by club official Mohammed Kayaba.
In an interview with Peace FM as monitored Kayaba revealed, “Clearly the club as we speak now is in deep financial crisis we don’t have any headline sponsors we don’t have any source of income apart from one individual who is sponsoring everything.”
The financial woes led to unpaid player salaries during the 2023/24 season and have been deepened by recent sanctions imposed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA). The GFA’s Disciplinary Committee fined RTU GHc100,000 for bringing the game into disrepute after the club intentionally used unregistered players to impersonate registered ones in a match against Dreams FC.
In addition to the fine, five RTU officials—Iddi Manzah Alhassan, Abdul-Samed Iddrisu, Abdul-Gafaru Salifu, Tanko Jentumah, and Sylvester Yaw Apanka—have each been handed a one-year ban from all football-related activities, effective immediately. The sanctions were imposed in accordance with Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations.
