The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, has appealed to all presidential aspirants and their supporters to unite behind whoever emerges victorious in the party’s ongoing presidential primaries.

Speaking to the media at a polling centre on Saturday, January 31, Mr Osei Owusu emphasised that party unity must come first after the elections.

He urged all aspirants and their supporters to accept the outcome in the broader interest of the party.

“My advice to all the aspirants is that whoever wins, it is the party that has won. So all of us will give the support that we have to whoever wins,” he added.

Mr Osei Owusu expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the process, describing it as free, fair, and well secured.

“What I’m seeing is a free and fair process. What I’m seeing is a very well-secured voting centre. What I’ve seen is a rather very calm atmosphere. I’m confident that by the time the process is over, nobody will have any justification to complain,” he said.

More than 211,000 delegates are expected to cast their votes at over 300 polling centres across the country. Five aspirants are contesting the race: former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr Bryan Acheampong, former Minister of Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, and businessman Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

The election is being closely watched, as it will determine the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 presidential election and influence the NPP’s future direction following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
