Rainstorm rips off roofs of classrooms at Adinkrakrom
The rainstorm on Wednesday caused massive damage at Adinkrakrom M/A Basic School near Agogo in the Asante Akyem North district of the Ashanti Region.
Confirming the incident, the assemblyman of Magyeda electoral area, Sikanya Justice, said the roofing sheets were scattered all over the school’s compound.
The Headmaster of Adinkrakrom M/A Basic School, Nyezie Dery Michael, added that the rainstorm ripped off the roofs of classrooms after they closed from school and appealed to authorities for help.
Many school buildings have been at the mercy of rainstorms.
The storm tore off the roofing of structures in seven senior high schools and 18 basic schools, exposing students, teaching staff, and non-teaching staff to harsh weather conditions and disrupting academic activities in the affected schools.
According to the School Management Committee (SMC) Chairman, Mr. Jacob Tetteh Agbeko, the structure was dilapidated.
Therefore, when the teachers observed the danger, they instructed the pupils to leave the classroom.
Immediately after the children left, the building collapsed, trapping their books and bags.
Of all concerns, the one that was most felt was the kitchen, which operated in a temporary shed.
When the dust settled, the catering staff were seen picking up their items from the debris, which covered a wide radius.
