The Deputy Minister of Justice and Attorney General (A-G), Justice Srem Sai, has revealed that the raid on the house of former Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, was in accordance with the law.
On Wednesday, March 19, Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, led a team of operatives on an operation at Dr Addison’s residence in Roman Ridge, Accra.
Addressing the issue on Thursday, March 20, Mr Srem Sai said the team secured a warrant for the search.
“We take responsibility for the search that happened. We want to make it clear that those searches and the mode in which they were done were in accordance with the law. Warrants were procured and used,” he said.
This comes after the Minority in Parliament led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin condemned the raid as unlawful and a move to intimidate past officials.
“Some GHC10,000 on his bed could not be found. So some of these hungry party foot soldiers they use, who parade themselves as National Security Operatives, are after all perhaps not being paid, and they use this opportunity to steal.
“The governor’s wife’s earrings and necklaces were also not traced. They couldn’t be found. In other words, those operatives stole these earrings and necklaces. Ghana is a mature democracy, and we should do better,” he said.
He, therefore, called on President Mahama to intervene to resolve the issue.
