Qatar 2022: FIFA postpones African qualifiers to September 2021

FIFA has postponed the African qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be hosted by Qatar.

The qualifying campaign which was due to start in June has been pushed to September 2021.

According to the world football governing body, the decision was due to “the current disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to ensure optimal playing conditions for all teams.”

In a statement on Thursday, FIFA confirmed that “the qualifiers are now scheduled to take place in the existing windows of September, October and November 2021, and March 2022.”

The Black Stars are in Group C along with South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Ethiopia for the qualifying campaign.

The 10 group winners will then be drawn in a home and away knock-out round to determine the five teams to represent the continent at the global showpiece slated for November 2022 in Qatar.
