The police have arrested four suspects in connection to the killing of nine persons at Pusiga in the Upper East Region.
The suspects are Majeed Issaka, Rauf Anatem and two others who are yet to be identified.
They were reportedly picked up at their hideout in Bawku by a joint military and police team on Sunday, September 24, 2023.
Police say the four are currently in the custody of the Bawku Divisional Police waiting to be arraigned.
Heavily armed men ambushed a convoy of police personnel escorting traders from Bawku to Togo near the Gbewaa Training College on the road from Missiga to Pulimakom.
No police officer was harmed although the police vehicle was badly damaged.
Meanwhile, the MP for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, in a statement said the attack would derail the recent improvement in the security situation in Bawku and its environs.
He said, “This cowardly and senseless shooting of passenger vehicles in the Bawku areas and Walewale route is unacceptable and continuous to completely derail the recent improving security situation in Bawku and its environments”.
“This retaliatory shootings must stop and the soldiers must be firm on this matter and deal swiftly with such dastardly acts,” he said.
