Pupils stranded as contractor locks school over debt

Source The Ghana Report

Pupils at Galilea M/A Basic School face uncertainty after Geos Anointing Construction Company locked down a six-unit classroom block due to unpaid government debts.

Information gathered indicates that the contractor completed a 12-unit classroom block in 2017 but hasn’t received payment, prompting this action.

Christopher Newman, Public Relations Officer for Geos Anointing, expressed frustration, revealing severe repercussions.

According to him, some banks confiscated two houses belonging to the company’s owner over the issue.

Therefore, Mr Newman has called on the government to fulfil its payment obligations.

In response, the Municipal Chief Executive and Ga South Assembly staff visited the school to assess the situation and negotiate with the contractor to allow pupils and teachers to resume their teaching and learning activities.

The student’s future hangs in the balance as discussions continue.
