The National Tenants’ Union of Ghana (NTUG) has called for the immediate publication of names of beneficiaries who received disbursements from the National Rental Assistance Scheme (NRAS).
This follows assertions made by the former Minister of Works and Housing, Francis Asenso Boakye, that 1,492 citizens received a total disbursement of GH 19 million through the NRAS.
Launched on January 31, 2023, by the Ministry of Works and Housing, the NRAS seeks to address issues related to rent advance payments in Ghana.
The scheme aims to assist individuals with reliable income sources, including public and private sector employees, and self-employed individuals.
The eligibility criteria include Ghanaian citizenship, possession of a valid Ghanacard, adulthood (18 years and above), verifiable employment and income, and a rent payable not exceeding 30% of the household income.

However, the National Tenants’ Union of Ghana, in a statement on Tuesday, March 12, expressed dissatisfaction with the report’s lack of specific details regarding the beneficiaries, as presented to the House.
To address this transparency gap, the Union is requesting” the immediate publication of names of beneficiaries by regions and communities to help us shape the policy for the purpose it was made.
” We request the Ministry of Housing to call all for stakeholders engagement and further call for immediate suspension of the scheme for a full-scale review to correct some anomalies we found consequential to the success of the implementation of the scheme.”
