Gifty Klenam, the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Lower West Akim in the Eastern Region, has officially joined the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

She made this announcement on Thursday, January 30, 2025, after obtaining her NDC membership card in the Anlo Constituency of the Volta Region.

Addressing journalists following her switch, Madam Gifty highlighted that the NDC aligns with her values and called on other disappointed NPP members to take the bold step and move.

“Upon consultation with my family, I decided to join the NDC because it aligns with my values and vision for Mother Ghana,” she stated.

She further expressed confidence in the NDC’s 2024 manifesto, asserting that it provides the best blueprint for Ghana’s development.

According to her, after analysing the party’s policies, she believes President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership will transform the country and deliver prosperity to Ghanaians.

Although she hasn’t yet been assigned any role in the party, Madam Gifty aims to connect with the NDC grassroots, empower them, and ensure they find opportunities within the country rather than seeking greener pastures abroad.

Madam Gifty Klenam served in the Fourth and Fifth Parliaments of the Fourth Republic and later as CEO of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEA).
