Naana Jane interacts with Central Region queenmothers
Prof Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of the flagbearer of the NDC, H. E. John Dramani Mahama, spent time and met the Central Region Queen Mothers’ Association at the Central Region House of Chiefs in Cape Coast on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.
Prof Naana Opoku-Agyemang expressed her appreciation to the Queen Mothers for their massive display of support during her acceptance speech at the UPSA, Accra.
She said that their presence in the audience was a source of encouragement that signalled the bond between them that requires constant nurturing.
She compared her status in relation to the Queen Mothers as a student who has much to learn from them. Prof reiterated her awareness of the high expectations that her position exacted and that she knew she could count on them to walk and work with her.
The President of the Queen Mothers’ Association, Nana Adjoa Nkansah Aduam, thanked Prof Naana Opoku-Agyemang for the visit and opened the floor for the queen mothers present to say a few words.
Much of their concerns were about educational and health access for women and children in their communities. They asked Prof Naana Opoku-Agyemang to use her office as Vice President when elected to ensure that queen mothers have representation on boards that address Gender issues in the country.
They again asked her to help bring back all the good initiatives the NDC government instituted for the queen mothers to help them develop their communities when they party was in power.
Prof Naana Opoku-Agyemang, for her part, thanked the queen mothers for their input and assured them of the NDC’s commitment to empowering them to help their communities. She, therefore, called for their massive support in the upcoming elections to ensure that the NDC comes back to power and continues meeting their needs.
Prof Naana Opoku-Agyemang also urged the queen mothers be vocal on issues that affect the nation so their presence would be felt as a force to be reckoned with. She encouraged them to show their support openly of good initiatives and to also speak out when things are not going well.
Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang presented the queen mothers with, bottles of water and cartons of assorted drinks, snacks and an undisclosed amount of money to aid their organizational work.
Prof Naana Opoku-Agyemang was joined by Mad. Faustina Lamptey- Central Regional Women’s organizer, Mad. Theresah Buckman-Cape Coast North Deputy Women’s organizer, Mad. Dzifa Glover – Cape Coast South Deputy Women’s Organizer, Mad. Sarah Ampofo- Twifo Etimokwa Women’s Organizer, and Mad. Vivian Sefor, KEEA Constituency Women’s Organizer.
Present at the meeting were various Queen Mothers of paramounties and towns in the Central Region, as well as the executives of the Association in the persons of: Nana Adjoa Nkansah Aduam the president, Nana Benyiwa the Vice-President, Nana Addae Aduaa the Secretary, Nana Otosi Otubea the financial Secretary, and Nana Bedu the organizer.
