Former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Prof Stephen Adei, has resigned from the advisory board of the Ministry of Finance.

Professor Adei cited personal reasons for his decision to step down, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to ensure the synchronization of economic policies.

“I served all eight years of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the first term of Akufo-Addo. I was on the advisory board of the Ministry of Finance till I decided to resign. And I remember at one time, not even in this regime, we invited the BoG governor then to come and have some discussion with us, and when he came, the posture was…Why did you call me? I am independent.

“At that time, I think it was Kwabena Duffour who was the Minister for Finance, and we had to explain to the governor that we have one economy. We are not asking you to abandon your independence but to make sure that both sides are in sync,” he told Asaase radio, monitored by The Ghana Report.

He stressed the need for collaboration between the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Ghana to align economic strategies and foster a harmonious approach to policy-making.

The advisory board, established under Section 39 of the Civil Service Act, 1993 (PNDC Law 327), is a key component of governance within Ghana’s ministries.

Its purpose is to facilitate ongoing engagement between the ministry and its stakeholders while offering valuable insights into policy formulation and operational strategies.

Chaired by the Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, the board features a distinguished lineup of members, including Kwaku Kwarteng, Abena Osei-Asare, and Patrick Nomo.

The board’s composition is designed to bring together a diverse range of expertise to contribute to informed decision-making.
