Prof Ocquaye orders Parliament’s health directorate to fumigate Parliament
Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Ocquaye, has ordered the immediate fumigation of the precincts of Parliament before sitting begins on Thursday.
The Speaker, on Wednesday, tasked Parliament’s Director of Health to quickly survey the house and begin the immediate fumigation as early as possible.
The fumigation exercise, among others, are part of the new measures announced by Parliament to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
“The fumigation of every inch of Parliament where we operate should be done immediately. Tomorrow we should see progress in that regard,” he directed.
Earlier this week, the house banned the public gallery to the public and also suspended social visits.
Prof Ocquaye also mentioned strict adherence to the social distancing measure, as advised by the World Health Organisation.
The mention of social distance by the Speaker met murmuring from the floor of the house, as members, with questioning eyes, wondered how the measure would be possible with 275 MPs in Parliament.
The Speaker, in response, advised that Parliamentary Service Staff, try as much as possible to, explore the public gallery for the needed space.
