Pratt fires British Airways for ‘deliberately looking down’ on Ghanaian passengers
British Airways has been criticised for ‘deliberately providing sub-standard service to its Ghanaian passengers.
Complaining on Metro TV’s Ghana Morning Ghana on Wednesday, the Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper Kwesi Pratt said “they look down upon us.”
Using economy-class in one of his recent travels, Pratt said he observed the airplanes allocated to Ghana are inferior and revealed flying on an “obviously ramshackle.”
But on another British Airways flight to a Latin American destination, Pratt said he experienced a different service in a comfortable aircraft with ‘a lot of leg room.’
An Nkrumahist, Kwesi Pratt said Ghana’s English-speaking neighbor Nigeria refused to accept such poor service from British airways.
“Nigerians fought against it and now Nigerian is treated specially”, he told show host Randy Abbey who also first raised concern about the company’s poor treatment of Ghanaian passengers.
“I don’t think that British Airways has been fair to us. I mean the kind of aircraft,” Abbey lamented.
New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP, Oko Boye, who urged Ghanaians to speak up about the matter also faulted the customer service of Africa World Airline.
He called on the management of the airline to train their staff on customer relations.
President Nana Akufo-Addo in 2017 expressed concerns about the quality of British Airways service.
“People complain about the movement (of flights to and from Accra) from Terminal five to Terminal three at Heathrow. Terminal three is not so convenient place as Terminal five. There are also complaints about the quality of the planes on the route and the service. In some quarters, there is a feeling that you are taking us a little for granted in the way in which we are receiving your services.”
“I think on an occasion like this, for when friends are speaking, I think we should speak frankly. I think I am the proper person to let you know what the pre-occupations of our people are. These are matters that will be easy for you to rectify,” President Akufo-Addo told British Airways’ head of sales for the Middle East, Africa, and Central Asia, Paolo De Renzis.
