The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) is set to open nominations for its presidential primary from April 1 to 30, 2024.
A statement signed by the PPP’s National Secretary, Remy Paa Kow Edmundson, revealed that the vetting of aspirants and elections are expected to conclude by May 15, 2024.
The party also announced a 50% reduction in filing fees for female aspirants and persons with disabilities.
Interested aspirants are to pick their nomination forms from the party headquarters within the specified nomination period.
The decision was reached during the party’s national committee meeting on March 7, 2024.
The party has pledged to conduct a free, fair, and transparent presidential primary and has urged all party members to support the process.
The PPP, which has contested in previous general elections since its formation in 2012, will again participate in the upcoming 2024 general election.
Madam Brigitte Akosua Dzogbenuku, the 2020 Presidential Candidate and 2016 party running mate, is reported to have declared her interest in the race.
The party earlier announced that it would target no more than 10 parliamentary seats in constituencies that the PPP was confident of winning in the 2024 general election.
In the 2020 elections, the party fielded 19 parliamentary candidates but could not secure a seat in Parliament.
