Ghana’s sports journalism community has been thrown into a state of mourning after the death of journalist John Awuah Otabil, popularly known as Sports Cotyledon.

The Class Media Group (CMG), announced his passing in a heartfelt tribute on Tuesday, August 21.

The tribute highlighted his remarkable passion and dedication to sports journalism, stating, “His passion and dedication to exceptional sports coverage were truly inspiring. While we will deeply miss his insights, his legacy will continue to shine. Farewell, John. May you rest in peace.”

Awuah Otabil was a prominent figure in sports journalism, serving as the Head of Sports at CTV, and hosting the Matured Sports Show.

His career spanned over a decade, beginning in 2013 at Obrempong FM 91.7 MHz in Agona Swedru.

He later worked at HSTV, SANKOFA TV, BASE ONE TV, and finally joined Class Media Group in 2023.

His contributions to sports journalism earned him the Best Foreign Sports Presenter award at the Foklex Media Awards 2024.

Awuah Otabil’s untimely passing has left a void in the industry, and he will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to sports reporting.
