Political colours will not affect support schemes — Gender Minister-designate
Ms. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister-designate for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, has emphasised the readiness of the incumbent government to implement the Orphan and Vulnerable Child Support Scheme, aimed at cushioning the less privileged in society.
The Orphan and Vulnerable Child Support Scheme was one of the key messages embedded in President John Dramani Mahama’s 2024 campaign manifesto.
Appearing before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on January 22, 2025, the Minister-designate for Gender, Children, and Social Protection revealed that the Orphan and Vulnerable Child Support Scheme will be implemented without bias.
Naa Momo Lartey further assured the public that the scheme would benefit all citizens who genuinely need support.
“One of the key things the manifesto seeks to achieve is to have an Orphan and Vulnerable Child Support Scheme, and it’s one of the protective means for children and orphans, and with this scheme, there will be a special purpose vehicle that will support the child and ensuring that they are safe.
“Not just orphans but children who fall prey to child trafficking, and so in the manifesto you realise that we are going to work and develop a framework to ensure the safety of the vulnerable and also provide support for reintegration and all that, and so that is a summation of what the manifesto talks about”.
She continued, “Mr. Chairman, the scheme is going to be based on needs assessment, so if I have people in my party who don’t need support, I will not necessarily give them support. I will only support those who genuinely need support and fall within the bracket”.
