Police kill four suspected robbers in gun battle on Bekwai-Fomena highway
The police engaged in a deadly confrontation with armed robbers on the Bekwai-Fomena Highway in the Ashanti Region, resulting in the death of four suspects.
The incident took place on Sunday, April 13, 2025, when the suspects allegedly set up a roadblock to rob commuters.
Four individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, while two others, who were injured, managed to flee into nearby bushes after police responded swiftly.
Initial investigations suggest that those involved may be part of a robbery gang that has been causing havoc for travellers and residents in the Adansi area.
The Ashanti South Police Command is set to provide further details during a press conference scheduled for today, Monday, April 14, 2025.
It will be recalled that the police in the Bono East Region, in September 2024, also shot and killed two suspected armed robbers on the Atebubu-Yeji highway in the Pru East District.
The police shot the suspects during a gunfire exchange between the parties at the Kojokrom portion of the stretch.
According to reports, the robbers blocked the road and robbed some traders who were travelling from Kumasi to Yeji of their valuables and money.
However, their success was short-lived when a police patrol team in the area got wind of the robbery attack.
The patrol team quickly moved to the scene and engaged in a gun battle with the robbers, resulting in the death of the two.
