The Western Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service has intercepted two truckloads of substances suspected to be Indian hemp at the Assokor barrier in the Shama Municipality.
The operation unfolded during a routine inspection when officers stopped a truck at the barrier for checks. Upon searching the vehicle, they discovered a large quantity of compressed bales believed to contain the narcotic.
Three individuals initially fled the scene, but police managed to arrest one suspect, who later led officers to a second truck parked at Nkrofo Junction.
In total, three suspects have been arrested in connection with the seizure.
According to the Head of Public Affairs for the Western Regional Police Command, Superintendent Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, officers also thwarted an attempt to influence the process.
The trucks were later offloaded, revealing about 152 large bales. Each bale reportedly contained approximately 82 pieces of compressed suspected Indian hemp wrapped in yellow packaging.
