The unrest, which marks a troubling surge in the region’s history of sporadic violence, has led to significant casualties and property damage.
According to reports from the Ghana Police Service, specialised reinforcement teams were dispatched to assist the Regional Police Command, with additional support provided by the military.
The clashes have resulted in the deaths of five individuals and injuries to five others.
Additionally, eight buildings and a shop were destroyed in the violence.
The injured are currently receiving medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased have been transported to the mortuary for further processing.
In response to the escalating tensions, the Inspector-General of Police has engaged with the local chiefs, urging them to collaborate with security forces to ensure the restoration of peace and stability.
Meanwhile, the Oti Regional Police Commander has been actively engaging with local leaders, including chiefs and opinion holders, as part of a broader peace-building initiative.
