A young woman who was allegedly held captive for four days has been rescued by police in Tamale following the arrest of a 26-year-old suspect, Fuseini Ibrahim.
The incident occurred at Dalogu Yili, a suburb of Tamale, and was reported to the police at about 9:00 a.m. on December 26.
According to police reports, officers acted swiftly after receiving the distress call, leading to the safe rescue of the victim, Haruna Adamu, without any injuries.
The operation was carried out by the Inspector General of Police Special Operations Team, led by Chief Inspector Abdullai Tahiru.
The suspect was arrested at the scene and later handed over to the Northern Regional Criminal Investigations Department for further investigations and possible prosecution.
The victim has since been reunited with her parents, bringing relief to her family after days of fear and uncertainty.
In a related development, the police also arrested two suspected drug peddlers in separate operations within the Tamale Metropolis as part of a broader festive season security crackdown.
The suspects, identified as Ziyad Inusah and Majid Fuseini, were picked up during routine Christmas patrols conducted by the same Special Operations Team.
The patrols formed part of a wider deployment of 105 officers operating with 10 vehicles across crime prone areas in the metropolis.
During the operation, officers seized quantities of opioids from one of the suspects, raising concerns about the spread of illicit drugs, particularly during the festive season.
The Ghana Police Service says the arrests highlight ongoing efforts to protect lives and property while clamping down on kidnapping, drug peddling and other criminal activities.
Investigations into both the kidnapping case and the drug-related arrests are ongoing.
