Police rescue abused woman and arrest suspect
The Ghana Police Service has rescued a young woman whose disturbing abuse video went viral earlier this week and has arrested the man believed to be responsible for the assault.
The video, which circulated widely on social media, showed the woman with a swollen left eye, clearly frightened and pleading for help from people nearby.
In a statement, the police said the operation was carried out by the IGP’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team.
Officers launched an intelligence-led search that tracked both the victim and the suspected abuser to Okushibri near Apollonia. After locating them, the team acted quickly to secure the woman and take the suspect into custody.
Preliminary investigations revealed the suspect as Bright Kpodo, also known as Horror, who is believed to be the victim’s partner.
Police say he allegedly subjected her to the assault captured in the viral video. Kpodo is now in custody and assisting investigators as the case continues.
Arrangements are also being made to ensure the woman receives medical care and the necessary support.
