Police rescue 16 human trafficking victims at Ngleshie Amanfro

The Accra Regional Police Command has rescued 16 victims of human trafficking in Ngleshie Amanfro, a suburb of Accra.

The rescued individuals, consisting of 12 males and 4 females, are reported to come from Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso.

The operation was prompted by a report received on July 24, 2025, regarding a young Ivorian, Chaka Kante, who had been missing for nine months after being deported to Ghana under the false pretence of joining a football team.

Reacting to this alarming news, a team from the Accra Regional Police Command accompanied the complainant to Toptown, another area in Amanfro, where they found all 16 victims housed in a residential building.

In a statement signed by Ms. Juliana Obeng, the Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, the police confirmed that the victims, including the previously missing Chaka Kante, were rescued and are now safe.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were recruited from their home countries by individuals suspected to be affiliated with a company called Q-Net, under the false promise of securing well-paying jobs in Europe.”

The identified victims include: Denbele Mohammed (20), Sawadu Razak (20), Olivier Yasei (19), Wilfred Kwako (18), Philbe Kwame (25), Kante Shamar (19), Kwame Lambel (24), Kone Musah (24), and Lasnel Kante (18), all Ivorians.

The Burkinabe victims include Sajor Dijala (19), Abass Jeril (19), Wadrago Alice (22), Nyamego Winkode (22), Santa Elodi (23), Oamba Fatooma (22), and Chaka Kante (17).

The police report states that the rescued individuals are currently being provided with shelter, and plans are in motion for their transfer to the Ghana Immigration Service for further assessment and repatriation, in accordance with immigration protocols.

Investigations are ongoing to track down and apprehend those responsible for this trafficking operation.

The Command also issued a warning to the public, particularly parents and guardians, to remain vigilant regarding fraudulent recruitment and travel schemes that falsely promise overseas employment opportunities.

“The Police also urge anyone with relevant information about the recruiters to report to the nearest Police Station,” the statement said.
