Police refutes claims of electoral disturbances in Nsawam Adoagyiri
The Ghana Police Service has strongly denied claims of disturbances in Nsawam Adoagyiri allegedly linked to the Electoral Commission’s (EC) re-collation exercise conducted in Accra on December 21, 2024.
In a statement issued the same day, the Police described the allegations, which were based on a viral video, as entirely unfounded.
The video purported to show individuals blocking roads and setting fires in protest against the collation exercise.
“We wish to state that the claim is false and has no correlation with today’s collation exercise in Accra. The said incident is a reported case under investigation which occurred on 8th December 2024,” the statement clarified.
The Police emphasised that the events depicted in the video were unrelated to the EC’s activities, noting that the re-collation exercise took place in Accra and not Nsawam Adoagyiri.
Public urged to disregard claims
The Ghana Police Service urged the public to disregard the video and refrain from sharing unverified information that could incite unnecessary panic or tension.
“We, therefore, urge the public to disregard the false claim,” the statement read.
The Police also reassured the public of their commitment to ensuring peace and security during the ongoing electoral processes.
Adequate security measures in place
To allay public concerns, the Police confirmed that sufficient security personnel had been deployed in and around Nsawam Adoagyiri. They affirmed their readiness to maintain law and order in the area.
The incident captured in the viral video, reported to have occurred on December 8 2024, is currently under investigation.
The Police reiterated their call for calm, cautioning against the dissemination of misleading reports.
The public is encouraged to cooperate with the Police by verifying information before sharing it, ensuring that peace and stability are preserved during this critical electoral period.
