Police recover weapons in Immigration Officer’s murder case

Police investigators have uncovered key evidence in the murder case of Ghana Immigration Service officer Stephen King Amoah, whose charred body was discovered on July 9, 2025.

The suspect, Bright Aweh, is in custody and has been formally charged with murder. He is believed to be the last person Amoah contacted before his disappearance.

DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department, shared details of the investigation at a press briefing on Monday.

“Forensic teams found bloodstains in the suspect’s home, signs of attempted cleanup, and a freshly sprayed wall. We also discovered a burnt woollen carpet stained with blood, and camouflage fabric near a secondary crime scene at the GBC satellite area,” she stated.

Investigators found additional blood traces in the suspect’s room during a court-approved search on July 24. A significant breakthrough came when officers recovered a fufu pestle, wrapped in plastic and stained with blood, just 100 meters from Aweh’s home.

Police also impounded the suspect’s car, where more blood samples were found. DCOP Donkor confirmed that initial tests showed the presence of human blood.

She added that DNA samples from the victim’s mother and son are being analysed to establish a direct match.

Amoah was reported missing on July 3 after leaving home to meet a friend at Ashongman Estate.

Aweh was later arrested and is being held on remand. He is expected back in court on August 8.

Meanwhile, police have launched a special operation to track down possible accomplices and are actively following new leads to build a strong case.
