Police recover arms, ammunition in abandoned vehicle

The Ashanti Regional Police Command is currently investigating an incident involving a vehicle packed with firearms and ammunition discovered in the Kuntanase area.

This finding occurred on August 17, 2025, during a routine patrol on the Aputuoagya–Bekwai road, when officers noticed a white Toyota Sienta, registration No. NR 289-24, suspiciously parked near a bushy area.

According to a statement from the police, two men were observed standing beside the vehicle, reportedly smoking a substance believed to be narcotics.

When the officers approached, the suspects fled into nearby bushes and managed to escape apprehension despite a chase.

A search of the abandoned vehicle uncovered a cache of dangerous items, including one AK-47 assault rifle (Serial No. 29546), one locally manufactured firearm, two AK-47 magazines (each loaded with 30 rounds), four packets of AK-47 ammunition (25 rounds per packet), seven loose rounds of ammunition, and other personal items, including a Huawei smartphone, cowrie shells, and a Ghana Card.

The police added that the vehicle has been impounded at the Kuntanase Police Station, while the recovered items are being held as exhibits to aid further investigations.

The law enforcement agency further urged the public to assist with any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects, emphasising their commitment to combating violent crime in the region.

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activities via the police emergency numbers: 191, 18555, or 112.
