Police pursue robbers who shot 2 people at Brofoyedu

The police are pursuing a gang of robbers who attacked a household and shot two people at Brofoyedu in the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred on Thursday, December 15, 2022.

The victims were shot after one of them allegedly struggled with the robbers during the attack.

A statement released by the police said, “They were rushed to the hospital for medical attention, but one of them, unfortunately, passed on while the other is receiving medical attention and is in stable condition.”

“Police have deepened security in the area, and intelligence operations are ongoing to get the perpetrators arrested,” it added.

Robbery cases on the rise

Ghana has recorded several robbery attacks, which have raised public concern.

On March 20, 2022, a group of armed men were captured on CCTV camera attacking a young woman and making away with her belongings at the Adenta SSNIT flats.

Footage of the incident shared on the social media handle of TV presenter Giovani Caleb showed a woman suddenly fleeing from the robbers.

In what would be a run for her life, one of the robbers chased her down and attacked her with an unidentified object which threw her to the ground, after which he fled with her bag.

On October 31, 2022, armed men attacked and robbed a family of three along the Ejura-Nkwanta-Nyinase road in the Ashanti Region.

The robbers shot and killed one of the victims, identified as Kipo Sumaila, and bolted with an unspecified amount of money.

The two other victims, Ibrahim Iddrisu and Masawudu Sumaila, who sustained gunshot wounds, were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

However, victim Ibrahim Iddrisu died while receiving treatment, while Masawudu Sumaila was treated and discharged from the hospital.

On November 26, 2022, a police constable met his untimely death after he was shot by armed men suspected to be robbers.

According to a police situational report, Constable Moses Konee, aged about 29, was riding from Ejura towards Nzema.

Upon reaching a spot between Miminaso Number 2 and Nyamebekyere on Ejura Nkoranza road, he bumped into several armed men on a robbery spree.

They searched him and found a police identification card on him and, as a result, shot at him at close range.

When police got wind of the incident and moved to the scene, nine (9) spent shells, an itel mobile, a pair of slippers, beads, a cutlass, a motorbike ignition key, his police ID Card and cash of Ghc 10 were retrieved from the scene.

The police officer who had been shot from behind at close range was rushed to the Ejura Government Hospital but was pronounced dead by the medical officer.

Recently, a Chinese woman was attacked and shot in a brazen robbery at Caprice on the Circle-Nsawam Highway in Accra on Friday, December 9, 2022.

According to eyewitnesses, the armed robbers attacked the victim while she was driving on the stretch in a Landcruiser Prado with registration number GN 8188-22.

The armed men, who were four in number, arrived at the scene on motorbikes.

One witness said they suspected the robbers trailed the victim as the pillion riders fired gunshots indiscriminately at the car when they got close.

“They got down to unlock the car from inside and demanded that the woman hands over her bag, but she struggled with them over it, and one shot her in the arm,” a witness narrated.

The robbers made away with an unspecified amount of money in a bag while bystanders looked on in utter shock.
