Police probe shooting incident at Kenyasi
The Ghana Police Service have commenced investigations into circumstances surrounding a shooting incident at Kenyasi in the Ahafo Region.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, resulted in the death of one person, with four others in critical condition, as police duty officers stationed with Newmont Mining Limited clashed with the youth at Kenyasi Number 2 in the Ahafo region.
Following the incident, some youths in the community went on a rampage in the town, destroying two vehicles of Newmont Mining Limited.
According to the Ghana Police Service, they have intensified the area’s law, order, and security operations, and calm has since been restored.
The police, in a statement, highlighted that anybody found culpable will be taken through the due process of the law.
Sources say personnel from the Formed Police Unit and Counter-terrorism Unit stationed with Newmont had an altercation with a motor rider gunning one person down in the ensuing struggle.
His death sparked a revolt by the youth, leading to four more people being shot.
