The Ghana Police Service has initiated an investigation into an alleged assault on a student from Obrachire Senior High Technical School by several students from the Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS) during this year’s district inter-schools athletics competition.
The incident reportedly occurred in Agona Swedru on Thursday, February 19, 2026, when tensions between the students of the two competing schools escalated into a physical altercation.
According to eyewitnesses, what started as a rivalry during the sporting event rapidly escalated into violent clashes, culminating in the severe assault of the Obrachire SHTS student.
In a statement released on Monday, February 23, via Facebook, the police confirmed that formal investigations have begun and assured the public that the situation is being addressed with urgency.
According to the statement, officers are actively working to identify all individuals involved in the assault and to clarify the sequence of events that led to the outbreak of violence.
The police also condemned the behaviour of the students involved, emphasising that acts of violence at school events undermine the essence of sportsmanship and pose a threat to public safety.
