Police probe fatal shooting of Kusasi Chief in Asawase

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has begun a full-scale investigation into a deadly shooting that occurred on the evening of Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Asawase F-Line in Kumasi.

According to an official police statement, initial findings reveal that a middle-aged man was fatally shot at close range by two unknown gunmen.

The attackers, each riding separate motorbikes, approached the victim and opened fire before fleeing the scene.

The victim was rushed to the Manhyia District Hospital and later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His body has been moved to the Ebenezer Mortuary in Tafo for autopsy.

In the aftermath of the incident, Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Mr. Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, accompanied by Regional Crime Officer ACP Mr. Ebenezer Boyor and other senior officers, visited the crime scene.

During their inspection, two spent shells believed to have been fired from an AK-47 assault rifle were recovered and secured as evidence.

Police have described the attack as a “heinous crime” and are intensifying efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible.

“We are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice. We call on the public to remain calm and cooperate fully with our investigations by sharing any relevant information,” the statement said.
