The Ghana Police Service has initiated an investigation into a deadly shooting incident that involved a policewoman, which took place on Monday, January 19, 2026, in the vicinity of Tetegu within the Weija area.
In a statement released on Tuesday, January 20, the Police indicated that initial findings suggest the officer allegedly shot a taxi driver during a confrontation.
The victim, who was driving a Hyundai i10 taxi cab, was transported to the Police Hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.
The statement also revealed that the situation at the scene intensified following the shooting, resulting in the policewoman suffering significant injuries.
Investigators reported that she was hit by a vehicle while attempting to exit the area, causing injuries to her head and both legs.
The Police confirmed that the injured officer is presently hospitalised and receiving medical care.
As part of the ongoing investigation, officers collected crucial evidence from the scene, which included one live 9mm round, a magazine, and an empty 9mm cartridge.
The Police Service assured the public that additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
