Police probe death of constable during anti-galamsey operation

The Ghana Police Service is currently investigating the tragic death of Constable John Kwabena Dogbey, which took place on April 21, 2025, in Assin Domeabra, located in the Central Region.

According to a statement from ASP Francis Onyina, the Public Affairs Officer for the Central North Region, initial investigations revealed that Constable Dogbey, a member of the Central North Regional Police Anti-Galamsey Taskforce, fell into the Offin River while dismantling a chanfan machine used by illegal miners.

ASP Onyina noted that after several hours of thorough searching by local divers, the constable’s body was recovered and taken to the St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Foso.

Tragically, he was pronounced dead by the medical officer upon arrival.

The body has since been moved to the Police Hospital mortuary in Accra for preservation and further examination.

The police administration is in contact with Constable Dogbey’s family, providing them with the necessary support during this challenging time.
