Police probe attack on Jacobu patrol team in Ashanti Region

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has begun investigations into an attack on a patrol team from the Jacobu District at Bepotenten Sukuum in the Ashanti Region.

In a Facebook post, the Police said the incident occurred on Thursday, January 23, 2026, while officers were carrying out routine patrol duties.

According to the statement, the officers had earlier retrieved a pump-action gun from a 15-year-old boy and asked him to inform the owner to report to the police station with the appropriate documentation.

The situation escalated as the patrol team was returning, when they were reportedly confronted by a crowd of about 100 people who blocked the road.

Some members of the group were allegedly armed with cutlasses and firearms, assaulted the officers, and forcibly took a service rifle.

Police said that during the confrontation, the individual who seized the rifle was shot, while another suspect sustained injuries.

The service rifle was later recovered.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has warned the public against attacking law enforcement officers, emphasizing that anyone involved in such acts will be identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
