Police pledge tight security for Homowo festival

The Accra Regional Police Command has assured the public of robust security arrangements ahead of this year’s Homowo Festival.

Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, July 7, 2025, the Head of Public Affairs, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, announced that a dedicated security task force has been formed.

The team includes officers from the regional command working in close collaboration with members of the traditional council.

According to Superintendent Obeng, this joint effort is designed to ensure smooth coordination and prevent any disturbances before, during, and after the festival.

“We’re fully aware that Homowo is about to begin, and we want to assure the public that there will be adequate and visible security throughout the celebration,” she said.

She also appealed to residents to cooperate with law enforcement and support efforts to maintain peace during the festivities.

“Our role is to protect the indigenes and everyone participating in the festival. But we can only succeed with the community’s support and vigilance,” she added.

The Homowo Festival, a major cultural celebration of the Ga people, draws large crowds annually.

Residents are being urged to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious activity to the police throughout the festival period to help maintain a safe and peaceful celebration.
